Identification and Cautions

Called Futatsuho because the character '宝' is struck twice. All Chōgin of the Hōei period are 'namako-shaped' and have a similar appearance, making identification impossible without checking the mark. The lower the silver purity, the higher the copper content, resulting in a darker surface tone subject to blackening or verdigris with age. However, changes due to storage conditions are significant, so the appearance alone cannot definitively identify the type.
